From the flood relief efforts and responses in eastern Kentucky to marking the first project milestone at BlueOval SK, communities across Kentucky showed compassion, cooperation and connection above all in 2022. Peer through the moments that made C2 Strategic’s list of top photos from this year.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet: Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief

On July 27, heavy rainfall devastated parts of eastern Kentucky. Over eight inches of rain created significant amounts of flash flooding across the region. President Biden said the flooding was a major disaster in Kentucky and ordered federal aid to help state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has helped lead recovery efforts as more than 100 bridges were damaged or destroyed in Perry, Knott and Breathitt County. (Photo by Kaitlin Keane).

I-Move Kentucky

I-Move Kentucky is an investment in safety and connectivity. By widening I-265 and I-71 and reconfiguring several key interchanges, the project team is making sure the interstates can safely support motorists and freight well into the future. (Photo by Kaitlin Keane).

Republic Bank

Republic Bank celebrated its 40th anniversary by giving back to its communities through various acts of service and nonprofit partnerships. Associates volunteered more than 5,000 hours with more than 300 organizations in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida. Mountain Parkway Expansion

Governor Andy Beshear announced plans for the final section of the Mountain Parkway Expansion. This project is a decades-old commitment to widen the Mountain Parkway to four lanes to bring new opportunities, economic development and safer commutes to the people of eastern Kentucky. BlueOval SK

BlueOval SK is a joint venture with SK On and a $5.8 billion dollar investment in Glendale, Kentucky. The twin battery manufacturing facilities will support the future of Ford Motor Company’s lineup as we move into an electrified future. The first column was placed on October 20 after a ceremonial signing with Ford, Barton Malow Company and local project partner Gray Construction, marking another major milestone in the project’s history. Kruger Packaging

Construction of the new Kruger Packaging plant in Elizabethtown, Kentucky was completed in September and is currently in the start-up phase. Once the plant is fully operational, it will produce more than two billion square feet of 100% recycled, corrugated boxes each year. MedQuest College

Sherman Minton Renewal

The Sherman Minton Renewal is a major bridge rehabilitation and painting project that will significantly extend the life of the 60-year-old bridge.
