VIDEO: New computer science program opening doors for Kentucky high school students

By Quin Welch, Building Kentucky

After the Kentucky General Assembly included a $3 million appropriation in its latest budget proposal, We Lead CS, a first-of-its-kind online computer science career academy, will open its virtual doors to students in August – just in time for the 2024-25 academic year.

The new program will allow high school students throughout Kentucky interested in careers in coding, programming, cybersecurity and more to get a jumpstart on college by earning dual credits that count toward graduation in both high school and college.

Additionally, We Lead CS partners with major tech employers to give students access to some of the industry’s leading experts. Students will learn from the best not only on how to continue their path to employment in tech, but will build resumes, participate in job shadowing and more.
