Kentucky colleges note record numbers of degrees and credentials

By Rachel Nix, Building Kentucky

Last year, nearly 77,000 degrees and credentials were awarded, up almost 5% from the previous and up 39% from a decade ago. These numbers help keep the commonwealth on track to meet its goal of 60% of the working population with a postsecondary credential by 2030.

Building a diverse and highly skilled workforce requires continuing growth among all levels and student demographics.

Data showed significant growth in the number of degrees earned by underrepresented minorities. In the last year, undergraduate certificates earned by these students grew 9%, associate degrees increased 6%; bachelor’s degrees climbed 5%; and master’s degrees grew 7%.
