Executive Director, Blue Grass Airport

Eric Frankl is the executive director of the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington. The airport is the primary air service provider for central Kentucky and much of eastern and southern Kentucky, serving a 54-county area and making it easy for tourists to visit Lexington.  

Frankl has worked in the airport industry for over 30 years. Prior to his appointment as executive director at Blue Grass Airport in 2009 he served as the executive director at the airport in Toledo, Ohio and Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, Illinois. He served as the chair for the Airline Economics and Air Service Committee from 2014 to 2017 and is on the board of directors for the American Association of Airport Executives.  

As executive director, Frankl has overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the airport’s operations, finances, administration and community relations. Under his leadership, Blue Grass Airport provides a $370 million economic impact and employs over 3,000 people.  

A Shelby, Ohio native, Frankl pursued his love for aviation management at Bowling Green State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He then received his professional accreditation in 1996 from the American Association of Airport Executives. In his free time, he is an active member of the local community in which he serves on a number of local boards including Bluegrass Care Navigators, LexArts, Kentuckians for Better Transportation and the Kentucky Blood Center.
