Genie is a native Hoosier but longtime Kentuckian, and lover of good stories about great people, places and things.
Genie uses skills from her journalism and hospitality media relations careers to share her clients’ stories and their commitment to excellence in serving their customers and the public.
Genie is a University of Kentucky graduate who began her journalism career with regional newspapers including the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer and Lexington Herald-Leader. She later joined Holly Hill and Co., the restaurant group led by nationally recognized Chef Ouita Michel, where she led media relations, website creation and marketing. During her tenure with Chef Michel, Genie delivered communications strategy, launched the chef’s e-commerce division and served as a co-author with Chef Michel and Sara Gibbs for Just a Few Miles South: Timeless Recipes from Our Favorite Places, one of the publisher’s most popular titles. (The Sweet Potato Muffins recipe on Page 19 – make them tonight!)
Genie and her husband, Mathew, are the parents of Carly, Harper, Grayson and Lelia, and in-laws to Brady (Carly’s spouse) and Kathryn (Grayson’s spouse). Genie and Mat live in Midway, a small city midway between Lexington and Frankfort in Woodford County, the heart of Bluegrass Thoroughbred country. The family of Packers fans enjoys trips to visit their children and continues to dine at Chef Ouita’s restaurants.
