The U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson is looking at New Orleans to help pave the way for future public-private partnership housing projects.
Following Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans utilized public-private partnerships to create mixed-income housing communities. Supporters of P3s believe these partnerships can be used to create safer communities and better opportunities for low-income families.
“It’s not just putting people under a roof but looking at ways to develop healthy communities that are walkable, that are looking out for education, for health care, that ensure that they’re not food deserts. … I believe this is a very excellent example of how it can be done.”
