Terre Haute Regional Airport has been recognized as the “Airport of the Year” by the Aviation Association of America following recent airport updates to drive economic development in the area. The airport partnered with private businesses, public entities and economic development interests to develop a TIF district in the community to fund improvements.
“I believe the airport is one of the biggest assets to our community,” said Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett. “The proximity to I-70, the 181st Intelligence Wing and the spurred retail and economic activity creates a lot of promise for the Terre Haute Regional Airport. I’m happy, but not surprised to learn of the recognition. There is a lot more in store for our airport, and I look forward to it welcoming 80,000 plus people for the Terre Haute Air Show in August of 2018. Congratulations to the airport leadership.”
The airport has attracted major retailers and has encouraged future expansion of Aerotech Park. In 2016, it was one of the busiest regional airports in the state, attracting 500 people daily.
