Standing at the center of transportation technology and innovation, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao serves as the face to the developing infrastructure package expected to be released by the Trump Administration this fall. Recently, Chao visited University of Michigan North Campus to announce recommendations for autonomous vehicle regulations.
“This is such a great moment for this country; driverless cars are coming and America is rightly at the forefront of the technology to perfect and produce this new way to transport people,” Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., told the Washington Examiner.
Chao spoke about the Transportation Department’s efforts to continue gathering data and create strategic plans regarding autonomous vehicles. Chao also announced plans for the anticipated infrastructure package fall release.
“As the technology advance and the department gathers new and more information from stakeholders and consumers, we will continue to refine and update this guidance,” she said.
