The Rhode Island legislature is considering a proposal that would use a public-private partnership to support the growing fiscal needs of various municipalities within the state.
Providence Mayor Jorge O. Elorza has publicly supported such a move, suggesting that the sale or lease of Providence Water Supply Board’s assets would raise hundreds of millions of dollars toward paying down the city’s billion-dollar-plus retirement-benefit fund deficit.
