A public-private partnership has made improvements possible for Valparaiso’s Tower Park. A fund-raising campaign was led by officials to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the $800,000 project. The project calls for the installation of two basketball courts, a baseball and softball field and a pickle ball court.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony recently took place at the park with Valparaiso High School graduate and former Purdue University basketball player Robbie Hummel. San Francisco Giants pitcher and Valparaiso native Jeff Samardzija and his family donated the lead gift for the baseball/softball field.
The park is more than 50 years old, and improvements have been planned for years. Renovations are still taking place with new playground equipment and a park shelter planned for the next phase.
