Every day, organizations across Kentucky make decisions that influence the health of their communities, from local health departments and hospitals to nonprofit organizations and policymakers. A new online resource aims to make those decisions easier by putting trusted, evidence-based guidance in one place.
Developed by public health experts with funding support from the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky (FHKY), Evidence to Action KY serves as a centralized decision-support resource for practitioners, policymakers, healthcare organizations, nonprofit leaders, grant writers and community coalitions working to improve health outcomes across the Commonwealth. By bringing proven strategies together in one place, the website helps organizations move more quickly from research to implementation.
Designed with Kentucky’s most pressing health priorities in mind, Evidence to Action KY organizes evidence-based interventions and policy strategies into five focus areas:
- Substance Use
- Mental Health
- Obesity
- Tobacco, including vaping
- Access to Care and Services
Instead of searching across dozens of research publications and technical resources, users can access curated guidance from trusted national organizations, including Healthy People 2030, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps’ What Works for Health, The Community Guide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Public health professionals often face limited time, funding constraints and difficulty accessing research in a format that supports day-to-day decision making. Each topic within Evidence to Action KY includes evidence summaries, key considerations, and links to supporting resources and tools that help communities move from planning to action. The site also includes an Evidence Based Public Health Implementation Workbook which can be used in coordination with the interventions and policies on the site.
Whether launching a new community initiative, informing policy decisions, strengthening an existing program or preparing the next grant proposal, Evidence to Action KY helps organizations spend less time searching for answers and more time putting proven strategies into practice.
