New Dixie Highway wins award from highway engineering society

The American Society of Highway Engineers Derby City chapter recently awarded the New Dixie Highway with its 2020 Transportation Improvement Award. The project competed against other projects in the region with construction cost in excess of $5 million.

Louisville Metro Public Works, HDR Engineering, Inc. and Mac Construction & Excavation accepted the award at a virtual luncheon in July. The New Dixie Highway will now compete against other projects in the Great Lakes Regional Competition. If it wins again, it will go on to the national level for recognition among the best highway engineering projects in the nation.

The New Dixie Highway project improved safety and mobility on Louisville’s most dangerous corridor. Major construction was completed earlier this year. The final technology pieces including fiber-optic installation and digital screens at TARC bus shelters will go live soon.
