The New Dixie Highway project in Louisville is nearing completion.
The transformative construction project will finish the final surfacing to the four-mile stretch of the busy corridor this month. The smoother, safer roadway is on schedule to be completed on time.
Medians installed along the corridor were also mowed for the first time. Sod and shrubs in the medians along with trees lining the corridor add an attractive element to the upgraded roadway.
Construction crews created a strong foundation for the roadway by milling, leveling and wedging severely deteriorated pavement that previously covered the portion of Dixie Highway before paving and striping the final surface.
Only technology pieces including the installation of pylons at TARC RAPID bus stops and fiber optic connections remain in the overall project. That technology will be operational later this year.
