New Delaware Program Makes Homes Safer
Home is where the heart is, but what if your home has a leaky roof, creating an unhealthy, moldy environment? Delaware has an answer, thanks to a public-private partnership. The newly launched Statewide Emergency Repair Program aims to help homeowners who live in unsafe or unhealthy dwellings, but who can’t afford the costly repairs. The program is made possible through a partnership with the Delaware State Housing Authority, The Milford Housing Development Corporation, and a host of nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout the state. The program has income, residency and ownership requirements.
“This is not a hand out, but a hand up by helping those in emergency situations,” Delaware Gov. John Carney told The News Journal at a news conference. “Public-private partnerships like this help leverage our resources to assist as many people as possible.”
