Midea America, a global leader in home appliances, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Midea America Research Center (MARC) in Louisville, Kentucky, on October 22. The expansion underscores Midea’s ongoing commitment to driving innovation in the U.S. and will increase its research capacity while creating new job opportunities in the region.

“This expansion is a testament to Midea’s dedication to U.S.-based innovation and to growing our presence in Louisville,” said John Herrington, President of Midea America. “With the new facility, we will continue to develop products that improve daily life for our consumers, delivering practical innovations that make household tasks easier and more efficient. We are excited to deepen our ties to the community and look forward to the opportunities this expansion will bring”

Expanding Innovation and Economic Growth

Midea awarded the project management to Louisville-based Hollenbach Oakley, which oversees the construction of the expanded facility as part of Phase III of Blankenbaker Station. The business park located at 2700 Chestnut Station Court, known for its Class A amenities and strategic location with direct interstate access, is already home to Midea’s current operations.

“We couldn’t be more excited to kick this project off with Midea America,” said Greg Oakley, Managing Partner of Hollenbach Oakley. “Midea is an incredible company that has already had such great success at Blankenbaker Station; we can’t wait to get started on this state-of-the-art expanded facility.”

The expanded MARC facility will feature advanced research laboratories, a consumer insights center and a customer showroom. These upgrades align with Midea’s strategic growth plan to enhance its R&D capabilities in the U.S., further positioning Louisville as a hub for next-generation appliance innovation.

Job Creation and Local Impact

The expansion project represents a significant economic boost for the local community, adding over 100 new jobs and increasing Midea’s regional investment to more than $35.6 million in Jefferson County.

Adam Schultz, executive director of MARC, emphasized the importance of the project: “This facility will serve as the heart of Midea’s research and development in the U.S., allowing us to create groundbreaking products with practical innovations.”

Set to be completed next year, the project will see Midea’s facility grow by approximately 400%, solidifying Louisville’s position as a hub for cutting-edge appliance innovation.
