Louisville airport tops passenger record

2019 was the busiest year yet for the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. Nearly 300,000 more travelers visit the airport than the previous record. 4.2 million total passengers traveled through SDF in 2019 including a record-high 14,510 passengers on the day after the Kentucky Derby.

Officials attributed the uptick in travelers to the addition of several key direct flights, like the Los Angeles (LAX) nonstop flight that started in April. The six airlines serving Louisville increased capacity on 20 different routes last year. The airport saw its busiest month ever in June.

Louisville Regional Airport Authority also mentioned its ongoing SDF Next Project with millions of dollars in investment planned for improvements. Projections for passengers and capacity are already showing strong signs that 2020 will be another record-breaking year.
