Kentucky to rebid Medicaid managed care contracts

Following the decision by Gov. Andy Beshear to cancel managed care contracts awarded by the outgoing governor’s administration in December, officials have begun the process to select which health care companies can manage benefits for the state’s Medicaid enrollees.

The Cabinet of Health and Family Services issued a request for proposals Jan. 10 to rebid the state’s managed care contracts. Current contracts with Aetna (via Coventry Cares), Anthem Inc., Humana Inc. (via CareSource), Passport Health Plan, and WellCare are set to expire on June 30.

Nearly $8 billion in contracts will be awarded in early spring after a competitive bid process.
