Kentucky-related movies to stream while you stay at home

These are the days that streaming video was built for, so whaddya streaming?

Here’s some Kentucky-related flicks to help fill the time:

Elizabethtown – Cameron Crowe film about a young man returning to Elizabethtown for his father’s funeral. Versailles is a stand-in for Elizabethtown in some scenes.

Hunger Games – If you can stomach an apocalyptic story, the Hunger Games trilogy is set in a dystopian future, in which the former U.S. is divided into Districts. The hero hails from District 12, an Appalachian coal mining region that includes Kentucky. The star is Jennifer Lawrence, who is from Louisville.

Coal Miner’s Daughter – Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for best actress for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn, who was – in case you’ve not heard – “born a coal miner’s daughter, in a cabin, on a hill, in Butcher Holler” Kentucky.

Secretariat – The story of America’s favorite horse, with scenes filmed at both Churchill Downs and Keeneland. (Keeneland plays the part of Belmont Park.)

The Insider – Nominated for seven Academy Awards, this is based on the true story of a Louisville High School teacher who was a whistleblower to the tobacco industry. Features a 1990s Louisville riverfront, much different than today’s.
