Kentucky breaks bourbon barrel record

Kentucky continues to break records for its booming bourbon industry.

According to the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, there are now nearly 10 million barrels of spirits aging in the state. That’s billions of dollars worth of bourbon!

Bourbon continues to boost Kentucky’s economy, contributing $8.6 billion and more than 20,100 jobs annually. And distillers are planning for the future, with $2.3 billion in capital investment campaigns in the works.

9.8 million barrels of spirits are aging in the Bluegrass today – and 9.2 million of that is bourbon. Just last year, more than 2 million barrels of bourbon were filled. More spirits are being aged in Kentucky now than its last recorded highs in the late 1960s.

COVID-19 has impacted Kentucky’s tourism and hospitality industry related to bourbon but distillers continue to make spirits and plan for a brighter future in this modern era of distilling.
