Jefferson Giving Day raises more than $20,000 to support student success

Jefferson Community & Technical College’s (Jefferson) annual Giving Day brought in more than $20,000 from 93 donors, funds that will directly support scholarships, emergency assistance, and essential resources for students.

The 24-hour fundraising event, held on April 22, rallied community members to help remove barriers that can prevent students from completing their education and entering the workforce.

“At Jefferson, we know our students are capable of achieving great things when they have the support they need,” said Jefferson President Ty Handy. “Giving Day is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when our community comes together to invest in student success.”

College leaders say the donations will allow Jefferson to respond quickly to the real-life challenges many students face, including food insecurity, transportation issues, and unexpected financial hardships. By addressing these needs, the college aims to help students stay enrolled and on track to graduate.

Funds raised will benefit several key initiatives, including The Hub, which provides food, clothing, and personal care items; the Jefferson Emergency Fund, which offers immediate financial assistance during urgent situations; and Jefferson Jubilee Scholarships, which expand access to education through financial support.

Additional funding will support Jefferson Rising, an effort to modernize campus facilities, and the Jefferson Fund – Area of Greatest Need, which gives the college flexibility to direct resources where they can have the greatest impact.

“Every gift, no matter the size, helps remove obstacles and creates opportunity,” Handy said. “Together, we are helping students succeed in the classroom and beyond.”
