The largest surface transportation project in Colorado’s history has been contracted to Kiewit Meridiam Partners consortium (KMP). KMP will be responsible for designing, building and maintain the expansion of Interstate 70 through Denver for 30 years.
The agreement was made in conjunction with another $1.8 billion Colorado P3 that’s already in motion to renovate the main terminal of the Denver International Airport.
Transportation Department officials said KMP’s commitment to shortening the five-year schedule by up to six months was a key driver of their decision. KMP will only be able to shut down the highway, which accommodates 200,00 vehicles daily, five times and only on weekends or at night.
