One of horse racing’s most prominent events will be back in Kentucky in 2022. Keeneland Race Course will host the Breeders’ Cup World Championships again this year and in two years.
The Lexington-area track is slated to serve as host site for the prestigious international event without fans in attendance this fall. Keeneland made the 2022 announcement in conjunction with its decision to conduct the 2020 races limiting on-site attendance to essential personnel and participants only due to COVID-19.
Some of the best horses in the world will run for $31 million in purses and awards Nov. 6-7 at the iconic race track. The annual event shines an international spotlight on the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Churchill Downs in Louisville has also held the world championship event multiple times.
To enhance the viewing experience for the influx of horse racing fans who will be watching the races from home, Breeders’ Cup is working with its broadcast partner NBC Sports to develop innovative production elements. The organization is also implementing advanced technologies across its own digital platforms and channels to further engage with fans at home.
