Launch your teaching career through the Louisville Teacher Residency program

By Marina Fraire, Building Kentucky

Jefferson County Public Schools is actively recruiting future educators for its Louisville Teacher Residency (LTR) program, a one-year, paid pathway to earning teacher certification while gaining hands-on classroom experience.

Designed for individuals with limited or no prior teaching experience, the residency allows participants to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) while working alongside experienced JCPS educators four days a week in local schools. Residents receive a $30,000 stipend plus benefits during the program year and commit to teaching for at least five years in designated Accelerated Improvement Schools upon completion.

The program partners with institutions, including University of Louisville and Bellarmine University to provide graduate coursework aligned with real-world classroom practice. Since its launch, the residency has prepared more than 180 educators now serving students across Louisville.

JCPS is currently hiring for the Resident – Classroom Instruction (2026–2027) position. Individuals interested in applying can view the full job description and submit an application here.
